Understanding the concerns of trekkers worldwide, we have aligned all the information to help you get a clear picture of the Manaslu Circuit Trek and Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek and start your new journey in the lap of the Himalayas.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is an alluring and peaceful journey through the heat of Manaslu's remote and untouched region. Making your way from the Macha Khola, you take the trail ahead, passing through dense forest and high alpine valleys. With each elevation, you are in for dramatic land escapes, authentic culture, and a deep sense of adventure.
Following the quiet villages of Namrung, Sama Gaon, and Samdo, you’ll get a glimpse into the traditional lives of the Gurung, Tamang, and Tibetan people. Green subtropical hills surround this place, and it is where you can get the best picture of the preserved Tibetan culture and artifacts.
Among the best parts is the challenging climb of Larkya La Pass (5106m), a high mountain pass with the rewards of the surrounding views of Manaslu, Himalchuli, Larkya La, and Annapurna ranges. Followed by the chances of the marvellous side trips of Pungyne Gompa, Birendra Lake, Manaslu base Camp, and even the Rui La Pass.
Next comes the cultural wonder of the Manalu region: the Manaslu Tsum Valley trek, a blend of natural beauty and appealing culture. The restricted and solitude-filled trekking route takes you past majestic mountain views and waterfalls, and it offers a chance to get an executive view of the ancient Buddhist cultural region preserved for centuries.
One of the best things about this trek is that the path is not too rough or steep, so it's easier on your body. That means more time to relax and truly enjoy the hidden valley, surrounded by the incredible views of Ganesh Himal and Manaslu mountains.
Throughout your journey, the bright smiles of the local people, the peaceful vibe of the villages, and the countless monasteries scattered along the way will truly stay with you. The scenery keeps changing—from green forests to high mountain meadows—and every day feels like a new adventure.
Despite being in the Manaslu region, there are many things you should understand about the differences between the Manaslu Circuit Trek and the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek.
More challenging due to the crossing of Larkya La Pass (5,160m). Requires proper acclimatization and physical readiness for steep ascents and long walking days.
Overall, the altitude is lower, though still remote and demanding in terms of duration. It is ideal for trekkers seeking a less intense elevation profile but who are comfortable with longer trekking hours.
Acclimatization is crucial, especially before crossing Larkya La. Standard rest days are taken in Sama Gaun, with side trips to Pungen Gompa or Manaslu Base Camp to help adapt to the altitude.
Altitude gain is more gradual, which reduces the risk of altitude sickness. Still benefits from a slow trekking pace and optional side trips to places like Ganesh Himal Base Camp or Mu Gompa.
Both Treks Require:
Trekkers must travel in groups of at least two and be accompanied by a licensed guide through a registered trekking agency.
A Separate Tsum Valley Permit (usually for a minimum of 7 days) is required. No Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is needed unless it is combined with a Circuit.
It requires an ACAP permit after crossing into the Annapurna region past Samdo.
More developed teahouses offer various food options, including dal bhat, noodles, pancakes, and basic Western meals. They also have better facilities for hot showers, charging electronics, and restocking essentials.
More straightforward and more basic accommodation, especially beyond Chhokangparo. Food is more traditional and limited—expect local staples like tsampa, dal bhat, and butter tea.
Both Treks:
Winter:
Adventurous trekkers seeking a challenging and scenic high-altitude circuit with a dramatic pass crossing.
Cultural and spiritual seekers looking to explore an off-the-beaten-path region with deep monastic traditions and peaceful surroundings.
If you have 21–23 days, combining both routes offers the ultimate experience in Himalayan beauty, isolation, and cultural depth.
It depends on what you're looking for.
You can combine both into a single trek—Manaslu Circuit + Tsum Valley—if you have about 21–23 days. This gives you both thrilling high-altitude adventure and deep cultural exploration.
