Is the Mount Kailash trek difficult?
Tibet is an enormous and beautiful land that occupies the loft of Tibetan Plateaus perched on the northern side of the Himalayan Mountain range. It is called the 'Roof of the World' to its high elevation.
The rocky and steep trail can be hard to cover for new trekkers and pilgrims. The rugged mountain trails of over 52 km, averaging 5000m above sea level, are challenging. The Tibeaten do the Kora daily, while the international tourist takes three days to finish the 52 km walk. The Mount Kailash trek asks its visitors to have some technical knowledge of trekking and are active physically.
The first day of Kailash Kora starts at Darchen, which includes the 7km walk toward the Tarboche Valley. The south and west faces of Mount Kailash are visible from the trail. You will walk for 7 hours and cover 21 km along the riverside. The day will eventually end at Derapuk(4900m) which is also a part of Kailash Inner Kora.
The next day, the route is quite challenging with a rocky trek to pass the Dolma La(5,645m). It is one of the highest passes. With the series of uphill climbs of over 700 meters followed by a problematic downhill walk and longer flat land walking for 11 hours, you may have a tiring day.
However, the trail offers a stunning view of ice-covered jills, ruins, Gauri Kunda, and other small lakes. The panoramic view of the northern face of Kailash and the eastern face can be seen along the way, reaching Juthulpuk, the final destination.
The last day is easy and a short walk of 3 hours on flat land at Juthulpuk Valley. At the same time, the view of KaiKailash'surth and previous face can be seen if the weather is clear.
Everyone can cover the route if they are physically fit. Ensure to prepare for the trek with regular exercise and watch out for high altitude sickness. It is recommended to eat and drink properly to help with altitude sickness. Besides, you will also get an option to hire a horse to cover the path.
